What is general surgery?
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents, which include the stomach, esophagus, colon, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. They also deal with diseases involving skin, breast, soft tissue and hernias. General surgeons are trained to diagnose your problem and recommend the most appropriate treatment in coordination with your patient’s primary care physician. This may or may not include a recommendation of surgery.
