Trauma, Acute and Critical Care Surgery

Trauma surgeons perform emergency procedures to save people’s lives when they are critically injured. When someone has a life-threatening injury, such as a car accident, specially-trained trauma surgeons will lead a team of health care professionals to intervene and stabilize the person. After the initial intervention, trauma surgeons continue to manage and care for the patient while in critical condition. Trauma surgeons undergo rigorous training to be able to treat a wide variety of life-threatening injury situations. They also partner with trauma centers to ensure all required processes and procedures are handled appropriately and maintain the facility’s trauma verification. For example, Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center. They provide state-of-the-art care to those who are injured. As part of this verification, dedicated trauma surgeons are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
